Shopify Store Profitability

Use one consistent currency for every monetary input. Dollar symbols are display labels and do not convert exchange rates.

Use product or variant cost for items sold in the same period. Avoid including unsold inventory or double-counting packaging and freight.
Include paid acquisition spend from channels such as Meta, Google, TikTok, affiliates and influencers when it matches the revenue period.
Enter the actual amount from your invoice. U.S. monthly public prices currently include Basic $39, Grow $105 and Advanced $399; regional prices and annual billing differ.
Include recurring, usage-based and one-time app charges allocated to this period, including externally billed apps.
Use your actual blended percentage from payout reports. Fixed per-order charges, international premiums and third-party transaction fees require separate adjustment.

Shopify Profit Margin, Fee, ROI and ROAS Formulas

Gross Profit = Net Sales Revenue - COGS Gross Margin = (Gross Profit / Net Sales Revenue) x 100 Estimated Payment Fees = Net Sales Revenue x (Effective Processing Rate / 100) Total Entered Costs = COGS + Ad Spend + Plan Cost + App Costs + Estimated Payment Fees + Shipping, Fulfillment, Returns and Other Costs Estimated Net Profit = Net Sales Revenue - Total Entered Costs Store ROI = (Estimated Net Profit / Total Entered Costs) x 100 Net Profit Margin = (Estimated Net Profit / Net Sales Revenue) x 100 Revenue ROAS = Revenue / Ad Spend Gross-Margin Break-Even ROAS = 1 / Gross Margin as a Decimal

Payment fee estimate: The calculator multiplies total revenue by the percentage rate entered. It does not separately calculate fixed per-transaction charges, card type differences, currency conversion, chargebacks, taxes, or third-party provider fees.

Store ROI: The result compares estimated net profit with all entered monthly costs. It is not the return on advertising spend alone.

Revenue ROAS: The calculator divides total store revenue by ad spend. Use advertising-attributed revenue instead when only part of store revenue came from paid campaigns.

Break-even ROAS limitation: The displayed break-even figure is based on gross margin only. It does not fully account for plan fees, apps, payment costs, shipping, returns, taxes, or operating overhead, so the store's actual required ROAS may be higher.

Use your actual payment rate: Shopify payment rates can vary by plan, store location, card type, and payment method. Enter the effective percentage shown in your Shopify Payments settings, payout reports, or payment-provider statement rather than relying on a generic plan rate.

Shopify ROI Calculator Frequently Asked Questions

Answers cover Shopify fees, transaction charges, payment processing, monthly store costs, profit margin and the limits of this calculator.

A Shopify profit margin calculator combines net sales with product cost and other entered store expenses to estimate gross profit, net profit and profit margin. This SolveIndex tool also estimates percentage-based payment fees, store ROI, revenue ROAS and gross-margin break-even ROAS.
Include the Shopify subscription, paid app charges, payment-processing fees, applicable third-party transaction fees, shipping labels, fulfillment, returns, chargebacks, currency conversion and other material expenses for the same period. Avoid counting the same fee in more than one input.
Shopify can charge third-party transaction fees when an external payment provider is used. The rate depends on the plan and market. When eligible orders are processed using Shopify Payments, separate third-party transaction fees generally do not apply, although processing and other charges can still apply.
It multiplies net sales revenue by the effective percentage entered. It does not separately calculate fixed per-order charges, international card premiums, currency conversion, chargebacks or different rates by payment method, so use a blended rate from actual payout reports.
The amount depends on country, currency, plan and billing cycle. Enter the actual subscription amount from your Shopify invoice rather than relying on a universal price. Apps, transaction fees, payment processing, shipping labels and taxes can increase the total cost beyond the base plan.

Shopify Profit Calculator Disclaimer: This calculator estimates profit, margin, fees, ROAS and ROI from the values entered. It does not automatically calculate fixed card charges, all third-party transaction fees, currency conversion, taxes, duties, payroll, chargebacks, fraud losses, financing or other omitted overhead. Shopify prices and fee rules vary by market and can change. Verify current amounts in Shopify billing, payout and accounting records before making financial or operational decisions.
